Bass drums are generally created from a single bit of tree trunk, generally mango or cedar, which can be hollowed out by both lathe or hand. Older, much larger drums were manufactured from the dense but mild fat cottonwood tree which isn't observed now. Some bass drum shells are created of maple ply-wood, Some others Have got a barrel stave design.
